I have long since forgot why I was on REDDIT that night two years ago. I was one of the 32,000 who read and listened as history unfolded on the internet in real time. It remains a transcendent moment for me and I am sure for the others who were dialling up scanners, reading posts from the residents of MIT, Watertown, Cambridge and Boston - and all the while talking among ourselves about what the hell was going on...
What I remember vividly from that night was thinking: this surely wasn't the Marathon bombers, they of course had long since fled Boston - they were probably half way around the globe by now.
Fight or Flight are the two basic fundamental mechanisms built into every fiber of our being. They are part of our genetic makeup that evolutionary biologists say played a key role in our survival as a species. Every child fundamentally knows the abject fear of doing a great wrong that overwhelms and forces the flight response. And yet somehow we are expected to accept the Tsarnaev's do not possess a flight response. That somehow they are freaks of nature.

Defense attorney Judy Clarke said the brothers panicked after shooting Collier and fled in their car. But, if that was truly the case, why didn't they jump on Highway 95 and get out? They would have been in New York (as it was claimed they wanted to go) before the tapes could have id'd them or their car - and as we have seen thus far, those tapes would never have identified them anyway. They could have been out of the country by the next day. But they did not panic and they did not flee.

Instead they drove back into Cambridge and, so we are told cynically, they carjacked a Mercedes and drove around in circles for over an hour and then back into Watertown, but not until they stopped at an ATM and bought snacks and Red Bull for the long drive. Seems bad guys have priorities.
The lack of a flight response suggests one of two things: 1) either we are to believe the FBI and prosecution that the brothers are freaks of nature, or 2) there was no cause for a flight response. No cause for a flight response suggests they were clueless about the causes of the bombing, and/or they were sufficiently protected from retribution for any role they may have played. No other explanation offered anywhere, that I have found - explains why the brothers did not run ...None...
Among all the contradictions, and unanswered questions surrounding the bombing this one is surely the biggest - the most glaring - the most confounding. We can engage in a little Cartesian doubting - and doubt every contradiction and anomaly, every scrap of information, every scanner, video and eye witness recollection - but we cannot doubt that the brothers did not run and hide. They went about their lives as if they were not involved in the bombing...That does not show lack of remorse as the prosecutors would have us believe - it shows guilt did not direct their behavior following the bombing.
